Understanding the different types of metal when choosing a desirable jewellery piece

Designing your own ring gives you the option of choosing 18ct yellow gold, 18ct white gold, 18ct rose gold or platinum which is a durable metal.

When shopping online with Ziba and Co products are specified in categories such as white gold, yellow gold and rose gold. These categories include stock items that are crafted from 9ct, 10ct, 14ct and 18ct.

Yellow Gold

Yellow gold is made up of commonly used compounds like copper, silver, zinc, green hue and red hue. It is often offered in different tones, this is due to the amount of concentration each compound consists of. To get the shine and warmth colour of yellow gold copper and silver are combined together to give this precious metal a rich look.

White Gold

White gold is manufactured from various types of derived metals like silver, nickel, zinc and palladium. One of the main compounds that are featured in white gold is rhodium; this component gives white gold the bright white look.

Over time this rhodium plating will wear off and the yellow tint of pure white gold comes back, though this can be easily rhodium plated. It is recommended that between 12-18 months depending on the complexity of your piece, a new coat of rhodium should be applied.

Rose Gold

Rose gold is made up of three compounds these are silver, gold and copper. Copper gives it the beautiful pink luscious glow and colour it needs.

Platinum is the most popular metal for engagement rings and wedding bands. It is a strong, durable metal choice, that does not fade over time and its beauty will always be held. Platinum brings a lustrous silver- white colour to any jewellery piece, it gives an enhanced sparkle.

Platinum is a hypoallergenic component that is not mixed with other elements and is often recommended for those with sensitive skin.
